Lakewood Public Schools issued the following announcement on Aug 19.
I would like to thank everyone for their patience today as we kicked off the 2021/22 school year. Everything takes a little longer the first few days of school as we adjust to new routines and make adjustments. This is especially true with respect to the transportation of students to and from school.
For those riding school buses, especially at the elementary level, please understand that LES and LECC staff take extra care to make sure students are on the correct bus. The result delays in leaving, but those delays should get shorter and shorter as students become more familiar with which bus is theirs, where it lines up, get to know their drivers and their drivers get to know them.
For those who are driving your students to school, if you are on a bus route, please consider having them ride the bus. Our buses safely drive approximately 400,000 miles every year. Bus ridership can save you time and money. If you do drive your student to and from school, please be considerate of our school building neighbors. As the line to drop off and pick up students backs up onto Washington Blvd., please do not block residents’ driveways so that they can get in and out.
