Rep. Julie Calley (R-Portland) is celebrating upcoming reading month by sending out letters to local teachers asking from for the opportunity for her to read to their students.
"My favorite time of the year is just around the corner," Calley posted on Facebook. "I absolutely love 'March is reading month.'"
Calley takes literacy month seriously as she is part of the Community Service Commission, which focuses on mentoring, literacy and volunteerism.
"Literacy is critical to the foundation of our students’ success," she said on Facebook.
Calley became a member of the Michigan House back when she was elected in November 2016, where she represents Barry County, Ionia County, and the surrounding townships and residents. Calley also served eight years, three of which were as a chairperson, as an Ionia County Commissioner. She is also a part of several committees to date, such as Health Policy, Natural Resources & Outdoor Recreation, Local Government & Municipal Finance, and is the chair of Elections & Ethics committees.
