State Representative Gina Johnsen (R-Portland) has announced that the public hearing on her resolution regarding parental rights and local control in Michigan classrooms will now take place before the full House Oversight Committee. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 at 9:00 a.m. in the House Appropriations Room at the State Capitol.

Johnsen's resolution urges the Michigan Department of Education and the State Board of Education to reject the proposed Health Education Standards Framework. She argues that the framework introduces ideological content into mandatory instruction, raising concerns about transparency, legality, and parental choice.

Members of the State Board of Education have been invited to participate in the committee hearing to discuss how the framework was developed and its intended purpose.

“This issue has been elevated to the highest level of legislative oversight because it directly impacts the rights of parents and the integrity of education in Michigan,” said Johnsen. “The people of Michigan deserve to be heard, and this full committee hearing will ensure their voices are.”

“This change underscores how serious this issue is,” Johnsen added. “The Legislature is watching, parents are watching, and we will continue to defend the right of families, not bureaucrats, to guide the moral and educational upbringing of their children.”
