Rep. Smit provided explanations for their votes on several bills during the week of July 1, 2025. The representative supported a bill package consisting of House Bills 4390 and 4391, which aims to expand methods of testing intoxication or impairment. This legislation allows for the testing of saliva for controlled substances.

The sponsors of these bills are Representatives BeGole (R) and Rogers (D). The passage was approved with a vote of 61-44 and granted immediate effect. Rep. Smit explained their affirmative vote by stating, "Oral fluid tests allow police officers to test for controlled substances more easily and quickly."

Another bill addressed was House Bill 4369, which prohibits schools from providing foods containing certain ingredients to students. Sponsored by Representative Paquette (R), this bill passed with a vote of 58-47 and also received immediate effect. Rep. Smit expressed support for this measure, saying, "The bill protects the health of students by keeping foods with harmful ingredients out of schools."
