State Representative Gina Johnsen has cast her vote in favor of a proposal aimed at recognizing the efforts of Blue Star Mothers of America, an organization with roots in Michigan since 1942. Senate Bill 235 proposes to establish February 1 each year as Blue Star Mothers Day in Michigan. This bill aligns with a similar initiative that Johnsen co-sponsored in the House.
"The Blue Star Mothers of America are dedicated to supporting our heroic service members and their families," stated Johnsen. "They go to great lengths to boost morale, provide care packages, assist homeless veterans, support wounded warriors, and honor our fallen heroes. I’m honored to support this bill recognizing and celebrating their profound, selfless efforts."
The organization was founded by 300 mothers of World War II service members who convened at the Durant Hotel in Flint, Michigan on February 1, 1942—just weeks following the Pearl Harbor attacks. Their mission quickly gained traction nationwide as other groups emerged across the United States.
Senate Bill 235 has garnered unanimous approval from both legislative chambers and is now set for presentation to the governor for her anticipated endorsement.
