State Rep. Gina Johnsen | Michigan House Republicans
Rep. Johnsen expressed dissatisfaction with Governor Gretchen Whitmer's recent State of the State Address, which took place on Wednesday. In a statement, Rep. Johnsen criticized the governor's claims about aiding Michigan families financially.
"Gov. Whitmer claims she’s helped Michigan families keep more of what they earn and reduce household expenses," stated Rep. Johnsen. "But that’s not what I hear from my constituents who continue to suffer at the hands of inflation and burdensome income tax rates."
Rep. Johnsen highlighted concerns regarding the economic challenges faced by working families in his district, particularly in relation to everyday costs. He argued that incentives for electric vehicles are not practical for many residents.
"The working families I represent need to hear what the governor is doing to reduce basic, everyday household costs," he continued. "They don’t need rebates on expensive electric cars they can’t afford and that aren’t practical for Michigan winters."
Additionally, Rep. Johnsen criticized what he perceives as misallocation of state funds and neglect of essential infrastructure projects.
"Sadly, it looks like 2024 will be just another year of frivolous spending of taxpayer dollars, hand-picking corporations to receive state handouts, and neglecting to fund local road and infrastructure projects," he concluded.
