CARO, MI- The City of Caro announced today that Lauren Amellal was appointed to the newly-created position of Director of Development and Strategic Initiatives by City Manager Matthew Lane on July 11, 2022.
Amellal previously served as part-time Caro Farmers Market manager since February 2021 when the City of Caro and Downtown Development Authority created that position to coordinate the activities of the new grant-funded market pavilion located at 238 S. State Street, also know as State Street Square.
As a result of the City’s initiative to Cultivate Community unfolded, it became apparent that the need for a full-time position to spearhead those strategic projects was going to be crucial in building momentum related to community and economic development.
“The development activity in Caro has been heating up over the last few years,” said City Manager Matthew Lane. “We have everything from large national chains to small mom-and-pop shops coming to Caro and we really need someone like Lauren who can help guide both the City and the developers through the various processes smoothly.”
In addition to development activity, Amellal will be working with the city, DDA and community partners on other strategic initiatives, including parks and recreation activities, special projects and area events. She will also maintain her duties as farmers’ market manager, at least for now.
