Mrs. Francisco Unlocks the Mysteries of the Moon
6th Grade Earth Science
Mrs. Francisco’s 6th grade scientists were engaged in lunar learning. In this unit, they are studying phases of the moon. The cycles from new Moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full Moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and waning crescent are all being examined as the cycle repeats. Seen here, students are learning with an interactive simulator program which demonstrates the appearance of the moon so they can see what the moon looks like in each of the phases. Mrs. Francisco’s instruction builds her students’ understanding of sequence, reflection of light, observation, and the magic of earth science. Middle school students will be well prepared for future learning that requires investigation, inquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Thank you Mrs. Francisco for a lesson that shoots for the moon.
