City of Grand Ledge issued the following announcement on Feb 17.
Due to the recent, significant amount of rainfall and snowpack melt thus causing water levels and velocity to significantly increase within the stormwater collection system. This increase has caused the failure of a sanitary sewer structure located in Sandstone Creek.
This failure allowed a large amount of rainwater to infiltrate the sanitary system causing a sanitary sewer overflow. The sanitary sewer overflow occurred on February 17, 2022, at the Grand Ledge Wastewater Treatment Plant Wet Weather EQ Basin which started overflowing at approximately 4:25 AM and concluded at 11:15 AM discharging 958,004 gallons of partially treated wastewater. All overflow water was discharged to the Grand River.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), local health department, and local newspaper have been notified accordingly.
