Lowell Area Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec 30.
We have arrived to our 11th Chief. Shannon L. Witherell. Shannon's family had a fire when he was 12 years old and Chief Frank Martin handed him his fire truck out of the house, that was a gift from his parents the previous year. The events of that evening drew him to pursue a career in the fire service. In 1994 Shannon started as an Explorer, riding his bike to the station, he was hired on to the Department in 1998. Fun fact; Shannon's first number was 11. He Served as a Lieutenant, training officer, fire inspector, Captain and Deputy Chief. In November of 2020 he became Chief. Chief Witherell is devoted to this community and I can vouch he knows most all of them by name. He recently earned his EMT license and is transitioning our departments EMS license so we can offer a higher level of care. Chief (retired) Rick Lasky has said that the only element that makes the fire service effective is Passion. The fire service has a proud history and tradition, we have family values and a brotherhood that is second to none. Chief Witherell loves this community and loves this Fire Department, he has passion in spades. Chief Witherell is active in every facet of the fire service and we are all just trying to keep up... lol.
