City of Portland recently issued the following announcement.

POWER OUTAGE INFORMATION - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Friday, October 15th at 11:45 PM through Saturday, October 16th at Noon

HOW LONG WILL THE OUTAGE LAST, 12 OR 36 HOURS?

The outage is expected to last approximately 12 hours.  The plan is to disconnect power from the Consumers Energy Transmission System at 11:45 PM on Friday, October 15th and to reconnect to the Consumers Energy Transmission System at approximately noon on Saturday, October 16th.

IS THE DATE GOING TO CHANGE?

The only reason we foresee that would cause us to change the date is hazardous weather conditions.

CAN I USE A GENERATOR TO POWER MY HOME OR BUSINESS DURING THE OUTAGE?

Generators can be used at homes or businesses during outages if installed and operated correctly.  We will have Portland Board of  Light and Power Staff working on the distribution system during the outage because it will be isolated from the primary source of energy.  Generators used without properly installed transfer and isolation switches can cause a safety risk to people and property.  Before using a generator, please make sure you’ve consulted with a licensed electrician and that proper transfer and isolation switches have been installed and are being utilized prior to connecting a generator to your home or business.
