The first of four planned projects to address park-deficient areas of Grand Rapids was recently completed, with the final touches to the green schoolyard and natural playscape at Burton Elementary/Middle School and Plaster Creek Family Park.
The other areas where similar projects are planned over the next two years include Brookside Elementary, Buchanan Elementary and Sigsbee Park, according to the City of Grand Rapids website.
“Creating wonderful outdoor spaces is essential to being a healthy city that offers the opportunity for a high quality of life for everyone,” Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said, according to the City of Grand Rapids website.
Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Leadriane Roby said the space will serve more than just the students.
“The benefits of green schoolyards go well beyond serving student,” Roby told the City of Grand Rapids website. “The spaces provide countless benefits to the health and wellness of the community and environment.”
