HOPKINS FOR AMERICA: WOMEN'S LACROSSE: STRONG FINISH PROPELS HOPKINS PAST DREXEL IN OPENER

Hopkins for america issued the following announcement Feb.10.

The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team rallied from a two-goal second-half deficit, scoring five of the game's final six goals to score a 13-11 win against Drexel in the season-opener for both teams on Saturday at Homewood Field.

The No. 24 Blue Jays (1-0) trailed 10-8 after back-to-back goals by the Dragons' Karson Harris with 19:19 remaining, but pulled even on goals by senior Maggie Schneidereith and first-year player Carly Steinlauf. Harris put Drexel (0-1) in front again with 10:49 left to play, but JHU scored the game's final three goals, with junior Aurora Cordingley, Steinlauf, and junior Shelby Harrison all scoring over the final 10:34.

Harrison and Cordingley each scored three goals to pace the Hopkins attack, and Schneidereith and Steinlauf added two apiece. Senior Mackenzie Heldberg added a goal and four assists, and goalkeeper Kathleen Garvey finished with six saves. Complete box score

The Blue Jays owned a 30-23 edge in shots and a 14-12 advantage on draws.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday at Loyola at noon.
