COMMITTEE TO ELECT CATHY ALBRO FOR CONGRESS: Floods, Power Outages, And Very Bad Roads Likely In Weekend Storm

Flood

Committee to Elect Cathy Albro for Congress issued the following announcement on Jan. 9

A storm on its way to Michigan is likely is to cause flooding and many other problems.

Heavy rain is in the forecast beginning tomorrow. It could fall across much of southern Lower Michigan, where rivers are already high from rain last month.

“We’re probably looking at river flooding if not just low-lying, lowland flooding for at least the latter part of the weekend into early next week,” said Walt Felver, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids.

Sleet and ice are expected to follow the rain. In Kalamazoo the forecast turns wintry on Saturday, with freezing precipitation continuing on Sunday. Areas north will likely get the "wintry mix" earlier.

Those conditions could make the roads highly dicey and knock the power out.

“If you need things to get done, earlier in the weekend, late this week, Friday, earlier Saturday, that would be a better time to get things done,” Felver added.

He said people should pay attention to their local forecast, since it’s hard to predict exactly where things will freeze first.

“Travel could become really difficult depending on exactly where this goes Saturday night and Sunday.”
