State Rep. Thomas Albert (R-Lowell), as chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee, listened to testimony regarding community correction programs throughout the state.
Albert said at the committee hearing on Oct. 30 that community correction programs were important, according to a press release.
"Community Corrections Advisory Boards play a critical role in reducing recidivism and addressing public safety concerns from a local level,” Albert said. "It is imperative we hear the concerns of these boards and their staff in order to continue to lower incarceration rates and use taxpayer dollars wisely."

Albert said Ionia County specifically was in need of the community correction program.
“Ionia County has continued need for specialized programs to help offenders and better our community,” Albert said. “I would like to explore ways the state and department can further support the great work our community corrections program is doing.”
Chair of the Ionia Community Corrections Advisory Board Brent Denny and manager Ron Morseau spoke during the session.
