Speaker Pro Tem Rachelle Smit has expressed support for President Donald Trump, highlighting the relationship between Michigan House Republicans and the President. Smit stated that her colleagues are aligned with Trump’s efforts to bring common sense back to government and restore what she termed “American greatness.”

“President Trump is delivering historic wins for our country, and we’re proud to be supporting those efforts in Michigan,” said Smit, R-Martin. She praised Trump’s actions in his first 100 days, including closing the border and ending DEI initiatives. According to Smit, “No other Republican could’ve won over a liberal governor like Gretchen Whitmer.”

Michigan House Republicans have supported resolutions honoring Trump’s early days in office and backing priorities such as mass deportations and environmental protections against Asian carp entering the Great Lakes. They also aim to secure the Selfridge Air Force Base’s viability and support energy projects like the Line 5 pipeline.

President Trump has reciprocated by announcing a new fighter mission at Selfridge Base during a visit to Warren. He has also committed to preventing Asian carp from threatening Michigan’s waters.

“For as much as Joe Biden talked about the environment, I don’t think anyone cared less about our great lakes,” Smit remarked, emphasizing their ongoing struggle against invasive species. She affirmed Michigan Republicans’ continued support for Trump’s policies.

Trump’s executive orders include declaring a National Energy Emergency to facilitate the Enbridge Line 5 tunnel project, which aims to protect jobs and state infrastructure. Additionally, an order increasing American mineral production could reduce foreign potash reliance through expedited mining permits in Osceola County.
